In 2018, Fort Collins Police Officer Adam Brunjes and his wife Jodi started the Blue Warriors hockey team, which played fundraising games against other first responder teams throughout Colorado. In 2 years, they raised close to $100,000 for local non-profits and first responder families in need.
In 2022, they began a First Responder and Veteran Hockey League which consisted of 8 teams. After the first year 4 new teams were added and by 2024 another 4 more teams joined. The league grew faster than expected so, starting in 2024, Adam and Jodi embarked on their new chapter by creating the Brave Warriors Hockey League (BWHL). Today there are 17 teams from Cheyenne to Colorado Springs in the league. Created with the intent to further the already strong camaraderie amongst our players the BWHL also provides a healthy outlet to deal with the tolls of service. The BWHL also shows the community the human side of first responders and Veterans and helps them give back to the community in which they serve.
“I have worked with more than 500 groups on events with the Colorado Avalanche. The Brave Warriors and Avs Alumni Night was one of the most memorable events that I have been a part of. Seeing the excitement and gratitude of both fans and players is a feeling that I will never forget. I am extremely excited for the BWHL to return next season.”
