In 2018, Fort Collins Police Officer Adam Brunjes and his wife, Jodi, founded the Blue Warriors Hockey Team with the goal of raising awareness and funds for first responders and their families. The team played fundraising games against other first responder teams across Colorado. Over the course of just two years, the Blue Warriors successfully raised nearly $100,000, benefiting local nonprofits and first responder families in need.
In 2022, Adam and Jodi expanded their vision by establishing a league of first responders and veteran teams, consisting of eight teams. The league’s growth exceeded expectations, and by the end of its inaugural season, four additional teams were added. By 2024, another four teams joined the league, prompting the next evolution in their mission launching the Brave Warriors Hockey League (BWHL). Today, the BWHL proudly consists of 17 teams, stretching from Cheyenne to Castle Rock. The league was created not only to enhance the strong camaraderie already present among first responders and veterans but also to provide a healthy, supportive outlet for dealing with the emotional and physical challenges of service.
The BWHL also serves as a platform to showcase the human side of our nation’s first responders and veterans. Through their participation, the league’s members are able to give back to the communities they serve while simultaneously fostering a deeper connection with those around them.
“I have worked with more than 500 groups on events with the Colorado Avalanche. The Brave Warriors and Avs Alumni Night was one of the most memorable events that I have been a part of. Seeing the excitement and gratitude of both fans and players is a feeling that I will never forget. I am extremely excited for the BWHL to return next season.”
